SEO is constantly evolving. Many techniques that worked five years ago to drive traffic to a website are not as effective today. There are a few old school SEO techniques that will always help a site rank better if implemented properly.
1 – Quality Inbound Links
Quality links to your website continue to result in higher rankings.
Emphasis on Quality!
In the past, marketers focused on getting as many links to a site as possible. However, search engines have evolved to understand the difference between quality links and poor links. If you have one quality link to your site, it might improve your rankings more than ten poor quality links.
Poor quality links may also result in a search engine penalty.
2 – Localized Content
If applicable, you should always localize your content! Realtors, for example, who emphasize the phrase “Real Estate Agent” without including the area they serve will find it very difficult to rank in search engines. A free listing at Google My Business and Bing Places for Business will also help you rank locally.
3 – Quality Content
I always tell people that they should write content for their audience, not for search engines. Search engines have become rather intelligent in 2017 and will likely pick up on keyword stuffing.
Lots of Quality Content
Several articles about your product will help you rank more than one article. Rather than trying to get your point across in one page, create several pages about your product with unique content. This will help search engines better understand what your site is about.
